August 2016 - IALA Launch V103-5 Revailidation course

The new IALA Model Course V103/5 for VTS Refresher training which was issued in June 2016 was published earlier this this month.

As an STCW qualification VTS Operator and Supervisor qualifications should be revalidated every five years in keeping with other Certificates of Competency. Competent Authorities (Flag State Administrations) are expected to adopt the new Model Course.

The Refresher Training comprises of three elements Recurrent Training (featuring a competency  assessment / proficiency check), Adaption Training and Updating Training. IALA Accredited Training Establishments are likely to fulfil the majority of Recurrent Training needs whilst VTS Authourities may attend to the Updating and Adaption Training requirements of Staff.

The Competent Authority for VTS may specify the frequency and duration of any Recurrent Training as well as its content. AFS Consultants are highly experienced in delivering all aspects of VTS Refresher Training and can provide as usual high quality training in this regard.
